Iskra is thrilled to be a featured project to launch with Base, the Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) network incubated by leading global crypto-exchange and NASDAQ-listed Coinbase.
The gaming partnership is set to onboard the next billion Web3 users, with Iskra bringing world-class Korean game content and its users from Asia and emerging markets to the newly launched Base mainnet.
In return, Base will promote Iskra’s in-house collectible battle RPG game called ClashMon: Ignition during their massive Onchain Summer event beginning in August 2023 to their user base in the United States and Europe, which already exceeds 110 million verified users as of 2022 The move is welcomed by Iskra, as it ramps up its global initiatives.
Bringing Seamless Web3 Gaming Experience to the World
Iskra is one of the Web3 game platforms selected to work with Coinbase for the mainnet launch of its own L2 network Base, a collaboration that allows Iskra to tap into the US and European markets through Coinbase’s massive user base, while recognizing Iskra’s role as one of the leading Web3 players in Asia that will help drive the next generation of Web3 users.

OnChain Summer Feature – ClashMon: Ignition
ClashMon: Ignition is one of the many accessible web3 games from the Iskra game platform that enhances enjoyable gameplay with the benefits of digital ownership through play, trading, collecting, crafting, and personalization.
Fun to play and easy to access through any web browser, players are able to build and actually ‘own’ their team of Clashmons for trading, collecting, battling, and even fishing. The ClashMon: Ignition collectible RPG offers its first minting opportunity on the Base mainnet during Onchain Summer prior to its launch in September. Starting on August 27th, the ClashMon FREE Mint OnChain Summer Event allows players to mint a game NFT mystery box and reveal their own ClashMon monster, ClashMon gear, and ClashMon tokens. This first mint kicks off the game’s launch in September 2023, allowing players to get a head start on building their monster decks.
A Quick Look at Layer 2 and Base
The collaboration with Base is a huge milestone for Iskra, but what exactly is Base?
As mentioned earlier, Base is an Ethereum Layer 2 network, which is essentially a network built on top of an already established “layer 1” blockchain, which in this case is Ethereum.
L2 solutions are designed to improve the scalability, speed, efficiency, privacy, and security of the underlying blockchain – a challenge that layer 1 blockchains have faced as the number of its users grow exponentially over the years.
According to Ethereum, this is part of the “blockchain trillema”, which states that the three desirable properties of a blockchain are that it is decentralized, secure, and scalable. A simple blockchain can only achieve two out of three, so if you want to achieve a secure and decentralized system, you need to sacrifice scalability and so on.
In Ethereum’s case, its demand has reached network capacity to the point where it would take extremely high gas fees and several hours to process transactions due to its highly congested network.
This is where L2 solutions come into the picture and Coindesk has the perfect analogy that shows how it works:
Think of it like a restaurant kitchen – if every order had to be made by a single person from beginning to end before the order was confirmed and delivered, it would be a very slow process that could only fulfill a few orders an hour.
But layer 2s are like prep stations – there’s a station for cleaning and cutting food, a station for cooking, a station that assembles the dishes – that is able to focus and do each task much more efficiently. When the time is right, a final person can match each assembled dish to the order and confirm it before it is sent to the final destination (the customer).
As explained by Base core developer Jesse Pollak in their blog article “Meet Base”, Base as an L2 solution offers a secure, low-cost, developer-friendly way for anyone, anywhere, to build decentralized apps onchain.
“Our goal with Base is to make onchain the next online and onboard one billion users into the cryptoeconomy,” Polak explained. “In pursuit of this goal, Base will serve as both a home for Coinbase’s onchain products and an open ecosystem where anyone can build.”
